The American Red Cross

The 9.0 earthquake that shook northeastern Japan at 2:46 pm JST on March 11, 2011, was the worst earthquake in Japan’s history.  The ensuing tsunami further ravaged coastal regions, claiming more lives and devastating all in its path.  Recovery will take years if not decades, as they begin to sift through the rubble and mourn the loss of friends and family.

The Republic of Tea has donated to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Disaster Relief in support of our Japanese friends across the ocean.

Since its founding in 1881, the American Red Cross has been the premier emergency response organization, distinguishing itself in aid of natural disaster victims as well as victims of war.  The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors – across the street, across the country, and across the world – in emergencies.
