Panera Cares: Take What You Need, Pay What You Can [Video]

Panera Bread, an embassy of The Republic of Tea, launched a new non-profit venture recently in its hometown of St. Louis. It’s an innovative concept that asks customers to donate what they can (or even their time) instead of paying the full cost of the meal. (See this article and video in USA Today for more info.)

After selecting and ordering what they would like to eat and drink (we’re fans of the You Pick Two meals), guests receive a receipt that tells them what their food would cost at a conventional Panera. The receipt directs customers with cash to donation boxes. Guests who can’t pay are asked to give of their time.

St. Louis Citizens, take a moment to visit, enjoy a cuppa and help out. The store is located at 10 South Central Avenue in Clayton.
