Announcing Our 2016 First Flush Darjeeling

The Republic of Tea is excited to announce this year’s 2016 Limited Edition First Flush Darjeeling from Castleton Estate Tea Garden. Regarded as the ultimate tea experience, only limited quantities of this freshly plucked, full-leaf tea are available from The Republic of Tea, selected on site and sent via air-freight to ensure the freshest tea possible for you to sip.

What is First Flush Darjeeling?

Darjeeling is considered the “champagne of tea” and is only grown in the Darjeeling region of India (on the northeastern edge of the country). First Flush is the picking of the brand new two leaves and a bud in early spring, so the window of harvest and amount harvested is extremely limited. The Republic of Tea’s pure, 100% Darjeeling tea is certified by the Tea Board of India.

The Finest Muscatel

Castleton Estate Tea Garden is located in the southern Kurseong Valley in the state of West Bengal, India. This prestigious garden is situated along the valley’s hillside at an altitude of 4,000 feet.

Castleton Estate Tea Garden was first planted in 1855 from China tea bushes. They have a reputation for producing the finest muscatel teas, using the orthodox method of processing hand-picked leaves.

Tasting Notes

This elegant Darjeeling yields a bright golden liquor with a well-rounded, slightly floral and vegetal first flush character.

The Gallery Collection Artwork

Our limited edition First Flush Darjeeling tea label features original artwork that captures the essence of this rare harvest. This year’s artwork was created by artist Julia Simon of Richardson, Texas. It is the fourteenth in a series from our Tea Gallery Collection. This design was inspired by the first, second and monsoon growing seasons in Darjeeling.
